About
Pelusey – that is Michael and Jane Pelusey – has evolved from its early beginnings.
Michael Pelusey’s career in photography had its tentative beginnings way back in 1985, when he met an editor of a local Perth newspaper at a particularly boozy party. Mike casually mentioned that he was going backpacking around South America for an indefinite period. Could he show her the photographs when he got back? She said yes, and 12 months later Mike presented his portfolio of exotic South American images. It so happened that the newspaper’s regular photographer was on his honeymoon so Mike filled in for two weeks. Such was the high standard of Mike’s photography, his amateur status rapidly turned professional. Since then Mike hasn’t looked back. In 1992 he got married, threw caution to the wind and became a freelancer. Travel photography in out of the way places became his passion along with an urge to write feature articles for National Geographic.
Jane Pelusey got the travel bug at about the age of twelve. The sights and sounds of the Pacific Islands whet her appetite for travel and adventure. Long holidays and great working holiday prospects made nursing an excellent career choice for financing her itchy feet. She graduated in 1986 as a Registered Nurse. Marrying Mike in 1992, certainly didn’t hinder her travel ambitions as they ventured throughout Asia, Central America and other exotic places. In between travelling, Jane worked as a Registered Nurse in Intensive Care and specialised in Trauma Management. In 2000, Jane left the hospital and the world of nursing to work full time in Pelusey Photography. Adding to her busy life, she found time to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics and Sociology.
